End of Hillary Term Newsletter
Dear Parents/Guardians
The past two weeks have been hectic with the Imani Sponsored Hockey and Basketball Tournament, the Parents Forum and hosting the Parents/Alumni meeting to discuss the celebrations for the 40th Anniversary of Imani. I was concerned that most present parents were not there bearing in mind that the present students are those who will benefit from the activities planned. The next meeting is on 28th March at 2.00 p.m.
The Parents forum was well attended although more parent input would have been appreciated. I want to thank the parents who did attend and gave up their time. The matters that were brought up will be addressed.
The students gave up their lunch one day to assist the famine stricken families in and around Thika District. The Red Cross Society will come on closing day to accept our donation.
International Night was held on Saturday 21st February. This evening of dance, song, drama, comedy and fashion was enjoyed by an eventual full house. The participants ranged from Class 3 to the Foundation Class in High School.
Field trips have taken place to Blue Post for Pre-Prep, Chemistry Trips to the Thika Water Department and Year 11 touring KEMRI in Nairobi.
HIGH SCHOOL
Classes have completed their Mock Examinations in Years 9, 11, 12 and 13 as also end of term examinations for the Foundation Group.
Year 11, 12 and 13 are expected to return on 14th April for class to continue to prepare them for their external examinations beginning in May. Boarders will return on 13th April 2009 in the evening.
Classes for the above will be held as normal upto the end of half term i.e. 2nd June. All students are expected to be in school full-time.
As the external examinations will begin in May, I would like to bring to your attention the Examination fees which must be paid as soon as school re-opens in April. I am aware it is somewhat short notice but as parents, we are all aware these charges are expected at this time, so please adhere to the due dates.
The Year 8s had a rewarding experience at the Braeburn Science Fayre held on 26th February 2009. They prepared well and were par if not above in their projects.
The Year 10 Chemistry students went on a field trip to Thika Municipal Water and Sewerage. Our guide took us through the whole purification process straight from the murky water to the storage. An interesting part of the trip was when our mouths went dry after tasting the aluminium sulphate solution used to flocculate the water. Kevin Shayo gave a word of thanks. We headed back to school ready for the inter-house swimming gala.

As has been the tradition for us at Imani School, this year we participated in the annual event of the Middle School Model United Nations Organization and the East African Model United Nations conferences at the U.N. Headquarters at Gigiri. In the junior category, there were slightly over a thousand students, while the senior category had one thousand three hundred participants from within and outside the country. Our junior team which had eighteen students emerged top and were awarded the certificate for the best resolution. The senior team did not win any awards but did equally well considering the kind of competition that characterizes these debates. The conference gives our students invaluable exposure to leadership skills and the insight as to how governance works not just locally but internationally. We hope to continue with the same next term and give our students the best there is at Imani and beyond.
